Renting in India can be a nightmare. Think about it: visiting countless houses, arguing over rent, losing money to brokers, sticking to 11-month contracts, and spending lakhs of rupees into furnishing. It's a lot, and honestly, we deserve better.
Here's where Flent comes in. We're creating a new standard of urban renting for India.
Imagine walking into a home that feels like it’s straight out of a lifestyle magazine - fully furnished, beautifully staged, all you need to bring is your suitcase. No need for deposits, no dealing with brokers, and no 11-month lockins. It’s not just a vision; it’s what we believe the top 1% in India truly deserves.
We started Flent because we were fed up. Trying to find a decent place in the city was a nightmare. But beyond the frustration was a deep-seated passion for home decor and an eye for detail that we couldn't ignore. Numbers revealed that ~$10 Bn is spent annually on urban renting — and that was the tipping point. It convinced us of the potential to craft the future of renting, designed for those who demand more and compromise less.
Flent is backed by top-tier micro VCs and angels. Since our inception 6 months ago, we’ve made significant strides, operating in Bangalore with 15 properties and securing enough runway for the next two years.
About The Role
As an intern, it’s your vision that will create the colourful canvas of Flent on top of India’s map. Your job will be to make every house we design a beautifully set up, unique yet standard masterpiece to cater an urban renter’s needs.
What you’ll broadly do:
- Create Designs: Use inventory data to create custom designed homes taking help of floor maps and data collected during property acquisition. These designs, along with flipping workflows will act as the holy grail for on-site replication.
- Procure Furniture: Find people who can create what you can think, at manufacturing costs. Build relationships and maintain deal pipelines for on-time fulfilment. Maintain a web of vendors to fulfil for furniture, handlooms, appliances, etc. In short, go shopping like a pro.
- Thrift: Thrifting interesting items helps us maintain the uniqueness of our homes by adding an unknown entropy in the system. Keep an eye out for all kinds of second hand marketplaces because somewhere, someone is selling something amazing at a jaw dropping cost at all times!
- Maintain Quality: Procurement or thrifting new items everyday invites the need for strong standard and quality checks, because our customers deserve the best. This will include creating strong processes to ensure every item fits a standard quality and if not, is refurbished such that it meets those standards.
- Flip Houses: Use our sourced inventory, designs, strong processes and combine them on-site to create perfect homes.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Purchase loads of shit : rugs, mats, couches, lamps, throws, tables, chairs, etc. Everything home decor!
- Imagine the crazy and create software/paper designs to make it possible.
- Create workflows and specifications to flip houses in the minimum time possible.
- Organise and maintain inventory flow, warehousing and efficient transportation.
- Create a custom designed, cosy and kick-ass home for people like us, every time!
- Travel through the nooks of India (and abroad) to source items and build relationships with sellers.
